In yesterday's post, I mentioned finding local artists on Twitter. To highlight how useful Twitter is for expanding local social circles, I am starting a new feature called Nighthawks. On a regular basis (every week?), I will click on the Local Arts Tweets link in the sidebar of this blog and post screenshots of five current tweets I have explored. This is a fun way to meet new people and discover new arts events in your neighborhood.
The name Nighthawks, of course, is a nod to the famous painting by Edward Hopper (and a slew of meme parodies). The semantics are irresistible:
Hawk > bird > night owl > tweet.
Diner > aquarium > exhibit > online profile.
Are we all just lost souls swimming in a fish bowl?
(Ed note: I am playing a game where I work this reference into every post. Winning.)
How does one explore a tweet? Read it, click through to the author bio, keep going deeper into their posted websites, and end up learning how that person surfaced in an arts keyword search. The process fascinates me.
Here are five tweets that I explored today:
Check out the local arts search, discover how interesting your neighbors are, and make some new friends. I have to give a shout out to kwout for making the screenshots easy (and clickable!).
