Paul Smedberg Waldron Exhibit

Every week, I check local event calendars to find things to do. When I browsed the exhibit listing for The Waldron, Paul Smedberg's name jumped out at me.

I first encountered Paul's art many months ago when searching for local people to follow on Twitter. I was immediately fascinated by the combination of photography and computer graphics, the mixture of real and surreal.

The remixes, as Paul has rightfully described them, remind me of the album art created by Storm Thorgerson for Pink Floyd and other Hipgnosis clients in the 1970's and 80's. Paul uses computer tools extensively, but the results take on the ethereal (sometimes bizarre) paper-and-scissors look of Thorgerson et al. I wouldn't be surprised to see a chaotic nest of fire leaping from a man in a business suit, and Smedberg's visions meticulously blended into the flames. I appreciate Thorgerson and Smedberg, and I think it is really cool that Paul is a local artist.

Paul Smedberg's photo remixes, along with the work of several other artists, will be on display at The Waldron until this Friday, July 29th. His portfolio and blog are online at www.paulsmedberg.com.

One view of the Waldron exhibit. I love the large window lighting.
